Kings Blank Rivermen 3-0

In a game that was almost a carbon copy of the night before, the Kings have beaten the Langley Rivermen 3-0 in a Sunday afternoon matinee affair at the Hap Parker Arena.

The Kings thought they were on the board early, as Craig Dalrymple shot it from centre ice and found its way through Langley netminder Jim Kruger. The goal, however, was waved off as the Kings were adjudged to be offside, so scoreless after 20. 3:16 into the 2nd period though, Luke Laskiewicz opened his account with the Kings, finding a hole through Kruger to make it a 1-0 game. Lone assist on the goal to Brendan Forbes, although Craig Dalrymple may get one on review.

Into the 3rd and Teagan Waugh scored a carbon copy goal to his one last night, when he burned down the right wing and roofed it backhand on Kruger, 2-0 Kings with 13 minutes left. Finally, with 1:30 left on the clock, Cohen Adair got a rebound from Craig Dalrymple’s shot, who finally got on the scoresheet with an assist to Adair’s 7th of the season, tying him for the league lead, to make it 3-0.

Sean Maguire stopped 19 saves for the shutout, his first of the season, and the Kings outshot the Rivermen 40-19 and complete the weekend sweep 8-0.

The Game How I Saw It

  • It really was a carbon copy of last night. Close after 1, however the longer the game went on, the more the Kings distanced themselves from Langley. The Rivermen were again badly outshot after 40, but the Kings had little to show for it on the scoreboard. It was again a 3rd period push and Langley caving to the pressure that won the game for the Kings.
  • Jim Kruger gave up too many rebounds. Several times there were pucks in front that were just waiting to be pounced on. I said it on the broadcast, that it would eventually cost them, and it did with Cohen Adair’s goal, as he found a Craig Dalrymple re-bound. Credit to the Langley defence for clearing a lot of the rebounds, but you cannot win games when pucks are sitting in the slot as often as they did.
  • Sean Maguire was worked a little more tonight than Phillips was last night, and looked in control throughout. The chances that the Rivermen had weren’t all that more in number, but they were of slightly better quality. A few more shots got through traffic and Maguire was able to take them up high. He gave up very few rebounds too, which controlled play well.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Sean Maguire (Kings) – 19 saves (1st shutout of the season)
  2. Teagan Waugh (Kings) – 1 goal
  3. Jim Kruger (Rivermen) – 37 saves

Next action for the Kings is Friday night, 7:30pm at the Hap Parker Arena against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The Kings then hit the road against the Langley Rivermen Saturday night, and the Coquitlam Express Sunday afternoon. All the games you can catch online or live on 95.7 SunFM.
