For the first time ever, the Langley Rivermen have come away from the Hap Parker Arena with two points following a 3-1 win on Saturday night.
The Kings got the game’s first goal for the 5th time in 10 games as the Rivermen turned the puck over on a clearence, with it falling within reach of Ben Berard to make a nice move on goaltender Braedon Fleming for Berard’s league-leading 9th goal of the season and a 1-0 Powell River advantage.
That lead stood until very late in the frame as the Rivermen got a similarly fortunate goal. A shot from the right side on a rush from the Rivermen was confidently punched away off the blocker by Mitch Adamyk, however the rebound fired out to the top of the left circle where William Stromp stepped into a one-timer for his 3rd of the season and a 1-1 score through 20. Shots 11-10 Langley.
No scoring in the second as the Rivermen began to push the pace of the game, outshooting the Kings 19-10 in the frame. Langley got an early third period goal to take the lead 2-1 and despite a late chance on the powerplay the Kings couldn’t find an equalizer and surrendered an empty net goal, falling by a 3-1 score for the second straight game.
Kings GM and Head Coach Tyler Kuntz jumped into the post game show following the game:
Three Stars of the Game
- Connor Merrill (Rivermen) – 1 goal
- Mitch Adamyk (Kings) – 35 saves
- Braedon Fleming (Kings) – 30 saves
The Kings now head out onto the road for five straight games beginning Thursday night in Prince George.
