Kings lose game 5, 4-2

Kings Drop 4-2 Decision in Game 5

Trail Fred Page Cup Final 3-2. Game 6 Saturday in Powell River

The Kings came out flat and never really recovered to lose game five 4-2 at vernon?s Wesbild Centre.

David Robinson scored his first of the series when he was left alone in the slot and beat Josh Watson along the ice at the 2:01 mark of the opening period. Watson kept his team in it which included stopping viper sniper Connor Jones on a penalty shot as the first ender 1-0 vernon.

The second began the same as the vipers continued to pressure the Kings until Mat Bodie caused a turnover at center then worked the puck into the slot to beat Gordon over the glove shoulder with a solo effort and the Kings were even. They then built some momentum off the Bodie tally for a few shifts until a defensive miscue allowed Kellen Jones enough room to receive a pass in stride and beat Watson with a deke and Vernon had their second lead. The Kings were out shot 15-9 in the period.

Rob Short made it 3-1 at the 5:58 mark of the third when he found some room down the right wing and beat Watson high over the shoulder. The Kings managed to make it a one goal game in the final minute when he deflected in a Mitch Labreche feed started by a Reid Campbell point shot. The Kings had a few chances in the dying seconds with a scramble in front of the viper net but couldn?t convert. Johnathan Millhouse then scored into the empty net with 18 seconds remaining. Final shots were 41-22 vernon. Kings were 0-1 on the PP while the vipers 0-3.
