Kings make it two in a row over the Chiefs

The Kings made sure there was no doubt in the minds of their naysayers on the weekend when they beat the Chiefs 4-1 on Sunday.

The entire lineup stepped up on the weekend and allowed just three goals in three games against two of the highest scoring offences in the conference.

The stats speak for themselves and the Kings are shouting out a bunch of defensive numbers that would be the envy of any hockey club.

Those numbers become even more important when the Kings score first in a game and they've been doing that a lot lately.

On Sunday Andrew Pettit got the only goal of the first period on a low wrister that beat Huggins on the glove side.

The Kings second goal came after Mike Sones was mugged behind the Chief's net, but not before he threw a pass out to Steven Schmidt who buried it.

Schmidt did it again but this time on the powerplay as he swept in a rebound off a shot from Brenden Forbes.

Probably the lowest point of the game came when the Chief's Josh Meyers beat his check to break in alone on Mike Garteig and broke the shutout with under three minutes to go in the game.

Myer's shot was a roofer that went in over the glove of Garteig, but with the score 3-1 the Kings salted it with an empty netter.

Andrew Pettitt took a shot at the net from just inside the blueline and nailed the goal post but the rebound came straight out to Cohen Adair who banged in his 10th of the season.

It was a great effort from the Kings in all facets of the game.

Focus, discipline, timely scoring and maturity proved too much for the Chiefs on this weekend's action.
