Kings on top with 6-1 win over Langley

The Powell River Kings sit alone on the top of the Coastal Conference by virtue of a 6-1 win over the Langley Chiefs on Saturday night.

They started out strong and finished the same way in what was a very businesslike method to their game.

Hey Scott Renner – nice block in the early minutes to keep it scoreless.

Cohen Adair got the Kings on the board first when he scooped up his own rebound and slid it low to beat Wyatt Galley at 3:49 of the first period.

Justin Dasilva scored next when he sailed down the right wing and into the slot where he wristed a beauty to make it 2-0 at the end of one period.

Matt Garbowsky kept it going in the second when he nabbed a Dasilva rebound on the powerplay and put it in the open net.

The Chiefs finally got one by Mike Garteig to make it 3-1 at 16:49 of the second period.

The Kings' fourth goal was a beautiful stretch pass from Garbowsky to the tape of Chris Williams stick who went in and deked Galley before sliding it in.

That goal at 19:28 of the second period was nasty and the Kings kept the pressure on when Dasilva got his second of the game from the same spot as his first in the third period. A wrister from the slot made it 5-1 and the game was pretty much in hand for the Kings.

Finally Scott Renner who made that great shot block in the first scored on a bank shot that trickled over the line between Galley's legs while he was sitting in the back of the net for the 6th and final goal of the game.

This was a strong win for the Kings and they demonstrated their innate ability to focus on the task at hand and play through the intimidation tactics of their opposition.

With Chad Niddery and Daniel Schuler, two of their top snipers, in the stands the effort was enormous and their first place standing reflects that.

After the game Justin Dasilva, who had a two goal game said, “it's a big weekend and we want to be in first place.”

“We definitely expect a better team tomorrow,” he said of Langley for Sunday's game, “they are definitely going to come out with more grit and hit us hard so we're going to have to be prepared like we were tonight.”

Game two goes on Sunday at 1:30 P.M.
