Kings perfect on the road

The Kings were perfect on the road winning in Alberni, Victoria and Cowichan this past weekend. The team earned 6 out of a potential 6 points and are now sitting in second place at the mid-point of the season.

You can read about Sunday's exciting OT win in Cowichan in the post taken from Voice of the Kings' Alex Rawnsley's blog below. For more nitty gritty details on this weekend's exciting wins, you can read more by clicking here.

The Kings found scoring when they needed it, played out a tough, chippy and physical game with the Cowichan Valley Capitals, skating away with a 3-2 win in overtime.

The Capitals opened the scoring less than 5 minutes into the 1st period, on the powerplay from Jake Charles to make it 1-0. After the Capials would have a 2-0 goal waved off, the Kings evened it up at 1 with a pinching Craig Dalrymple potting home his 14th of the season and 4th of the weekend.

The Capitals took the lead again on the powerplay in the 2nd period through Devin Gannon on a scramble in front and the home side led 2-1. That would spark a Teagan Waugh fight and eventually a tying goal on a 2-on-1 rush from Dan Schuler, feeding Cohen Adair for his 14th of the year and it was tied again at 2.

Regulation would solve nothing as the teams entered overtime tied at 2, then less than 2 minutes into the 1st overtime period, Carter Shinkaruk poked a loose puck 5-hole on Derek Dun for his 5th of the year and a huge Kings win.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Devin Gannon (Capitals) – 1 goal, 1 assist

  2. Cohen Adair (Kings) – 1 assist

  3. Matt Brown (Capitals) – 2 assists

The Kings take maximum points from the weekend and hold outright 2nd in the Coastal Conference, 3 points behind Cowichan. Next action is on Saturday as the Kings host the Grizzlies on Teddy Bear Toss night at the Hap Parker. The team encourages fans to bring teddy bears and other stuffed animals, but also touques, gloves, mittens and other warm gear. Game time is 7:30pm and is part of a double header with the Grizzles, as the two teams will play at 1:30 on Sunday.
