Kings sign Providence commit Owen Thomas

The Kings are very happy to announce the signing of 2005 born defenseman Owen Thomas.

Thomas is from Chicago Illinois and played last season in Texas for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays of the NAHL, playing in 48 games tallying a goal and two assists. “I’m very excited to join the Kings and I’m looking forward to the upcoming season” says Thomas “It’s a great league with great players and I can’t wait to get started”.

Assistant coach Kyle Bodie played a big role in recruiting the 17 year old to Powell River and he couldn’t be more excited to add him to the D core “He’s 6’5″, skates well, is good with the puck, has a good stick, and thinks the game at a high level, all the tools that translate well to how we try to defend in transition.”

Thomas is committed to play NCAA hockey at Providence College in two years time and the Kings staff is looking forward to working with him and prepare for the next level “Our goal now is to work with him and provide the opportunity and resources to continue to develop” adds Bodie “We want him to step right in when he goes to college at Providence”

Powell River won’t be Thomas’ first stop in Canada in his young career so far, before heading to Texas he played at the College of Notre Dame in Wilcox Saskatchewan for two seasons, where he had a stand out year for the Hounds during the 2021-22 campaign scoring 17 goals to go along with 25 assists in 40 games.
