Today the BCHL released the regular season schedule for the 2022/23 campaign. Just like last season the Kings will open the new year against the reigning Coastal Conference Champions in the Nanaimo Clippers. It will be a triple header versus the island rival that will start with a double header at the Hap on September 23 & 24 to kick off the regular season followed by a date in Nanaimo on September 30 to begin road portion of the schedule.
With the BCHL no longer part of the CJHL the league has been able to reduce the amount of weekday games around the league and the all teams will be able to benefit from more weekend home games. 25 of the 26 games at the Hap next season will be played on Friday’s and Saturday’s. “This is the best home schedule we’ve ever had” stated G.M. Chad Van Diemen “When you don’t have to build backwards from the Centennial Cup we can spread out the regular season this is one of the positives of that. Financially it’s a huge bonus for our team and the league as a whole to be able to play Friday’s and Saturday’s and maximize ticket sales.”
Next season will also see the return of cross conference games after highway closures forced the league to cancel all games between Coastal and Interior Conference teams. The Kings will play 8 interior teams once while they will play one Interior team twice. Coming to the Hap next season will be the defending Fred Page Cup Champions the Penticton Vees (Nov. 26), the Merritt Centennials (Dec. 2), the Wenatchee Wild (Jan.6) and old rival the Vernon Vipers (Feb.17). On the flip side the Kings will make their first ever trip to Cranbrook to take on the Bucks (Oct 21), then visit the Trail Smoke Eaters the following day (Oct 22). They will also have stops in Salmon Arm (Nov 11), and Prince George (Feb 24).
52 of the 54 games have been set with only the two games at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack still to be announced. Dates and opponents will be revealed later this month.
