Late Goals Hurt, Kings Fall 3-2

Three goals in 60 seconds highlighted the 2nd period, but the Kings gave up late goals in the 2nd and 3rd, en route to falling for the first time this season against the Capitals, 3-2 the score.

No scoring through the opening 30 minutes, and it was a double minor situation where the Kings were able to break the deadlock, through Jon Jutzi’s 9th of the year, in the form of a slapshot from the point, beating a screened Derek Dun. 40 seconds later, the Caps would come right back through Brett Knowles on a tight angle shot and a 1-1 game.

The Kings would come right back though, exactly 60 seconds after Jutzi’s goal, Chris Williams scored his 7th of the season and the Kings had the lead again. Following that, a bad case of deja vous for the Kings. With the 2nd period winding down, the Kings had the puck behind the net of Sean Maguire, before Steve Schmidt was flushed out by Keyler Bruce, a scramble in front ensued and it was eventually Steen Cooper to get the puck across the line, 0.2 seconds before the end of the period. Game tied at 2 through 40, shots on goal 20-19 Cowichan.

Into the 3rd and the lone goal was from the Capitals, Matt Brown sneaking one through Sean Maguire from a bad angle and the Caps had their first lead of the game, one which they would not give up. A 3-2 win, the season series finishes 6-1 in favour of the Kings.

Here’s what Geoff Grimwood had to say after the game:
