Kings 4 Eagles 2

Kings fought back to overcome a two goal deficit on Saturday night and beat the Eagles 4-2.

After a flurry of activity in the first few minutes of the game Surrey's Koshey drilled the game's first goal off the post and in to beat a screened Sean Maguire.

Surrey looked to be taking it to the Kings physically and perhaps went too far when Cronin blindsided Tidy at the Kings' blueline. Cohen Adair jumped in to take on Cronin while Tidy was attended to by Kings' physicians. Cronin was ejected while Adair took an instigator penalty on the play.

The first period ended 1-0 but the Eagles stretched the lead to 2-0 after a shot, initially caught by Maguire, popped out of his glove and Stenerson deposited the rebound at 3:41 of the second period.

That goal, oddly enough, seemed to wake up the Kings as they came back with a vengeance and evened the score with two goals in 35 seconds.

The first was off the stick of Daniel Schuler at 3:52 and the second was a backpass from MacDonald to the slot that went off an Eagle skate and in at 4:27.

The two teams continued to take the body against each other but there was no further scoring until late in the final period.

Kings were taking control as the game wore on and after some extensive pressure Waugh threw the puck back to Brandan Smith who took a shot on net from the point. Hunt made the save on the high shot but when the puck dropped down Richardson was on the doorstep to slam it in.

Richardson's game winner came at 15:12 but the Kings weren't done yet.

One of the Eagle defensemen (Koshey or Toews) was bringing the puck out over their blueline and Schuler nailed him which freed the puck. Scarth picked it up and crossed the line where he let a shot go that beat Hunt high and put the Kings up 4-2 with three minutes to go.

Quite a comeback for the Kings and something they haven't had in a while.

A good test and a good response to it.

Tidy was taking it easy after the game but said, "I never saw him coming but it wasn't a suicide pass, I guess I should have been more aware on the ice."

"It's day to day I guess, but I'll play tomorrow if I have to," he said gallantly but not likely to get his wish.

"But I'll do whatever the trainer thinks is best."

Of the remainder of the game that he watched from the stands Tidy said, "it's a huge two points and with the playoffs coming you want to be in there."

"I think the big turning points were two things," he said, "Cohen's fight and then Dan's (Schuler's) hit on the penalty kill and he sort of took matters into his own hands."

These two teams go at it again on Sunday at 1:30 P.M. and don't forget – Jesse Newman and the Grey Cup are front and center for all to admire.
