The Setup for the Kings
One of the bigger weekends for the Kings takes place over the next 3 days, as they face not only the team ahead of them in the standings, but the team chasing them as well. Last weekend was all about emotion, a playoff atmosphere generated by retro night, the 1000+ fans and the loud LOUD vuvuzela horns that First Insurance bought with them. Tonight it will be about the team creating their own emotion to try and earn some breathing room from the Caps.

You look on paper, and the Kings have been very successful against the Capitals this year, going for a season sweep tonight, the Kings are 6-0 against the Duncan side. That’s a very misleading stat however, as five of the six games this year have been 1 or 2 goal games (including a couple of empty netters) and two have gone to overtime. You can’t look at this as a game between two sides where the past 6 results have gone one way, because it’s been a coin flip on the scoreboard more often than not.

It will obviously be a big night for Brendon MacDonald, his first game at Island Savings Centre in the visitors dressing room.

The Setup for the Capitals
The Caps had been sliding lately, but have turned it around recently and are 7-3 in their last 10. There is no question the talent is there, this team lead the Coastal Conference for a majority of the season. Devin Gannon, Brett Knowles and Jacob Charles are driving forces up front, with Matt Brown returning and a strong back end, the Caps are dangerous. Interesting stat from the Capitals, is that the Kings haven’t seen Brady Rouleau this year, as Derek Dun has been the goaltender of record against the Kings recently, despite Rouleau having the better stats.

On the Broadcast
We’ll get set for Sunday’s fan appreciation day with an interview with BC Lion Guard Jesse Newman. Also on the show, we start to look back at a series of Season Highlights from the 2011/2012 Season, beginning with Green Men Night, against the Capitals on January 20th. Of course our regulars too, our trivia contest will be Alumni themed, as the Kings launch their retro jersey auction, and Geoff Grimwood in the post-game show will disect the game after 60 minutes.
