Michael Abgrall commits to the University of Nebraska Omaha

Powell River, BC – The Powell River Kings are proud to announce that ’03 born forward Michael Abgrall has committed to the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Abgrall, 16, has totaled six goals and 10 points over 24 games prior to his commitment. The Richmond, BC native became one of the youngest players in BCHL history to score a hat-trick on October 2nd against Victoria at just 15-years-old.

“They’ve been on him for about a year,” said Kings Head Coach and General Manager Tyler Kuntz. “They did a great job trying to develop a relationship with him. Michael (Abgrall) has done his part as being a really good hockey player, and it fits both parties.”

Abgrall played for the Burnaby Winter Club Elite 15s last season, scoring 48-points (26G/22A) in 29-games of action. That earned him five games in the BCHL with the Kings as a 15-year-old, where he tallied two assists.

“We’re excited for Michael (Abgrall)” added Kuntz. “Now he can focus on the game, doing his best and learning and developing so when he goes there, he’s ready to go.”

Abgrall says that UNO (University of Nebraska Omaha) was the first team to reach out to him after the Burnaby Winter Club played a showcase down there last year.

“I’ve found the loyalty with them,” said Abgrall. “I just love their facility and the coaching staff was great. As soon as I met them, I got the sense that they really wanted me. They always gave me phone calls, text messages and emails, so I really felt like they wanted me.”
