Powell River, BC – July 13, 2026 – The Powell River Kings are thrilled to announce a significant trade that bolsters the team’s roster for the upcoming BCHL season and beyond.
In the deal, the Kings have acquired goaltender Filip Vavro and forward Ethan Murray from the Sherwood Park Crusaders. In exchange, Powell River sends the player rights to defenceman Jaden VanWalleghem, forward/defenceman Casey Bridgewater, and future considerations to Sherwood Park.
Filip Vavro, a 2008-born netminder from Puchov, Slovakia (6’0”, catches right), brings elite goaltending pedigree to the Kings. In his rookie BCHL campaign with Sherwood Park in 2025-26, Vavro appeared in 32 regular season games with a 3.09 GAA and .902 save percentage. He was even stronger in the playoffs. Prior to joining the BCHL, Vavro starred for Seacoast Academy 16U AAA, posting a stellar 21-5-1 record with a 1.08 GAA and .954 save percentage, including 7 shutouts. His composure, athleticism, and compete level make him a cornerstone prospect for the Kings’ blue paint.
Ethan Murray, a 2007-born forward from Orangeville, Ontario (6’0”, 181 lbs, shoots left), adds offensive dynamism and veteran junior experience. Murray joined Sherwood Park mid-season after a strong sophomore campaign with the Wellington Dukes (OJHL), where he tallied 35 points (12G, 23A) in just 23 games. Known for his speed, playmaking, and ability to drive play, Murray is expected to be a key contributor in the Kings’ forward group.
