Schmidt Returns to Roster

The Kings are proud to announce that Steven Schmidt is back on the Kings roster. Steven Schmidt, younger brother of former Kings' player Ben Schmidt, will be wearing #18 for the green and gold for the upcoming months. Steven joined the Kings on October 2nd in Nanaimo.

Forward Steven Schmidt (who plays both wing and centre) had played with the Kings during the Fred Page play-off run last April after finishing his season with the Campbell River Storm of the VIJHL. During the summer, he debated whether or not to join the Kings full-time as he was going to pursue his post-graduate studies. However, one month away from the club was enough and Schmidt was in the line-up again. Schmidt notes, “I came back because I wanted to play with a team with a chance to win the RBC Cup. I've also always loved the team and the community.”

When asked how it feels to be back, Schmidt smiles and says, “It feels great. It's a great program here with the Kings so I'm very excited to contribute to a steady two way game, bring some energy on the ice and hopefully some offense. My goal is the Fred Page Cup Championships and to be a key contributor to that success”.

The coaching staff (and the fans!) are happy to have Steven back on the team. Coach Kent Lewis notes,”He has a big body presence and is a hard working player with lots of grit. He'll bring some size to our forwards and will add depth to our offensive game.”
