Eagles rally back to defeat Kings 4-2

BURNABY (May 7, 2021) – Two goals from the Powell River Kings were not enough, as a string of four unanswered goals for Surrey allowed the Eagles to rally for a 4-2 win on Friday night in Burnaby.

The game was the final meeting of the season between the two teams with the Eagles taking the series 7-1-1 and extending their win streak to 12. With the loss, Kings have dropped each of its last four games.

The first 20 minutes saw the Kings open the scoring, with Jacob Bonkowski and Ben Raymond setting up Ethan Riesterer’s fourth of the year.

The Kings would make it a 2-0 lead in the second with Adamo Santia converting on the power play at 4:11. It would be his team-leading sixth power play goal of the season and his first points in four games. Late in the second, Tyson McLean would put one past netminder Jakob Drapeau to pull the Eagles within one.

Surrey would complete the comeback in the final frame as Tyson McLean notched his second of the night at 11:15 and Brandon Santa Juana would get a power play goal 27 seconds later, the eventual game winner. Michael Abgrall would add an insurance marker later in the period.

Powell River outshot Surrey 29-27 in the game, as the Kings went 1-for-6 on the power play. Max Prazma earned the win for the Eagles with 27 saves, while Jakob Drapeau made 23 stops for the Kings.

The Kings will play their final game of the season Saturday afternoon when they take on the Coquitlam Express. Puck drop is at 1:00pm.
