Kings whip the Wolves 7-2

Kings were looking to redeem themselves after a forgettable outing on the road in Cowichan last night.

The perfect remedy for it came in a Timberwolf uniform and they weren't so big and bad.

Williams Lake looked exhausted from the opening whistle and the Kings peeled off four straight goals to lead 4-0 after the first period.

Ben Schmidt and Daniel Carr both went high on the first two but Brenden Forbes slid one through on his, the third Kings' goal.  Jordan Grant made it 4-0 when he slammed in a rebound.

Kings got a little sleepy in the second period but still outscored the Wolves 2-1.

Mitch Labreche went five hole on a nice setup from Pettitt and then Justin Dasilva picked up a powerplay goal with a hard slapshot from the point.

Kings and Pettitt got a scare in the period when Pears took a rising shot from the point that hit Pettitt in the head.  He missed a couple of shifts but returned later in the period.

He made a full recovery in the third when he drilled a perfect short side roof shot for the Kings 7th and final goal of the night to make it 7-2 Kings.

Kings outshot the Wolves 50-24 and went 1 for 5 on the powerplay with Michael Garteig in the net for the win.

After the game Kings coach Kent Lewis was pleased with the way his teamed bounced back and more than that was proud of their performance.

“Tonight we did the necessary things to win and I thought we were classy on how we went about that and we just went out and worked hard.”

There wasn't a lot of high fiving and yapping as the team just went about it's business to secure the win and they are aware that to hold the second position in the standing they would have to be ready for Victoria on Tuesday.

“We play them twice and if we want to finish second then we have to play our best games,” DaSilva said.

“It's definitely going to be playoff mentality,” he added, “winner go home.”
